Antonio de Turcios, a native of Salinas de Avana (Ávila province), had arrived in Nueva España in about 1527 and was chief scribe of the Audiencia of México by the 1540s. Tucios was often the scribe of record in documents dealing with members of the Coronado Expedition and their peers. He was appointed corregidor of the Native community of Tepeapulco in 1543. He was married and had five children in Mexico City.
